Lei Making Workshop - In Person and Online

Join us for an afternoon of flowers, hands, and aloha as we learn the art of Hawaiian lei-making.

Perfect for anyone who wants to learn a beautiful cultural practice, create a meaningful gift, or spend a few hours making something lovely with your hands. 

Online Welcome and you’ll have to get your own supplies (see list below). Let us know when you register and we’ll send link.

Alana Smutz returns with a second Lei Workshop! She and experienced lei-makers from Halau i Ka Pono will guide you through traditional techniques as you create a fresh flower lei. You’ll have the option of making a Lei ‘Aī (neck lei) or Lei Po’o (head lei). No experience necessary - beginners welcome! All materials will be provided if you attend in person. 

What to Expect: 

  • Learn basic Hawaiian lei-making techniques 

  • Create one complete Lei ‘Aī (neck lei) or Lei Po’o (head lei) to take home 

  • Hear stories about lei in Hawaiian culture 

  • Connect with community in a relaxed, hands-on atmosphere 


IN-PERSON attendees will have all materials provided. Space is limited to 20 participants.  Early Bird Price: $30 (ends June 15th). Registration:  $35

ONLINE attendees will need to gather their own supplies. Let us know when you register and a list of materials will be sent. Registration:  $30

Supplies to Gather if Attending Online:

  • Raffia

  • Something heavy to anchor your work (filled water bottle, a weight, etc)

  • Bowl of water

  • Scissors, small plant shears, or ikebana scissors

  • 2 bunches of flowers (mini carnations, spray roses or similarly small blooms work beautifully - any flower of that size or smaller is welcome)

  • Optional: small bunch of greenery or filler plants (baby’s breath, fern, small leaves, etc)
