Kahiko has two names: Ancient or Classical Hula. It is hula danced to chanting in honor of Nature and Hula Deities and Ali’I (Royalty) and to the beat of the ipu-heke or double headed gourd. This intro class will focus on basic kahiko hand motions and steps and learn a simple hula.
Prerequisite: It’s helpful if students have taken a month of Intro to Hula class. Age 16 and older. You may wear a pa’u or hula skirt.
* In-person classes follow Chicago and Oak Park guidelines which don’t currently require masking or proof of vaccination. Masks are always good to wear as a safety precaution.

Adult Cost: $20/class, 4 for $70, or 8 for $140. Two or more classes/week is $35/week. Elders 70 and older cost is $10/class or 4 for $35. Two classes/week is $17.50/week. Scholarships available.
